the latest of my doings & makings

An ever growing collection of curious creatures & bizarre beasties.
They first show up in my art journal doodles, from the vivid dreamscapes of my imagination.
I love to work freely with big splashy messy paint and multiple collaged layers.
A result of this practice is I often have more pieces than I can use, so the best of these pieces get bundled into specially curated collections for my shop.
Where painting meets collage, sometimes with textiles and stitching.
Deconstructing bigger pieces to reconstruct something entirely new from their fragments, these multi-layered confections are all combined with the spirit of ‘What if..?’
Exploring monochromatic art in mixed media, a year-long adventure in colour. Taking the 12 colours of the colour wheel, one month at a time.
I’ve revisited to this method many times since I first tried it out in 2012, and it’s always a journey of discovery.
Quirky little birds made from painted, collaged papers & fabric, strung on a ribbon.
All birds all have a light coat of protective varnish to preserve their papery plumage
Each paper bird is unique.
Studio Doings & Makings
My process entails having a lot of different studio projects running at any time, so ideas cross-pollinate as I hop from one to another.
This special kind of chaos is how I work best.
Sometimes a project has to rest (don’t we all?) and will lie dormant for weeks, months, even years.
I’ve come to realise that this is the key to keeping my muse amused, with the potential energy of part-made art pieces snoozing quietly in boxes and folders.
They nestle up with art books and sketchbooks on the shelves by my desk, ready to spring into life when the mood takes them.
